Author of "Not So Big" Book Series speaks
on Wright's Inspiration

CHICAGO - Join Sarah Susanka, author of The Not So Big House, in a lecture about how architects are inspired and how their designs affect the world around them.

Susanka, who is known for her "build better, not bigger" philosophy, has drawn inspiration from the spatial genius of the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, and has become known for giving language to the experiencing of architecture. This new vocabulary helps describe how the third dimension (i.e. height) affects people, and docents of Mr. Wright's work will often use her terminology to explain why his designs affect us so deeply. Mr. Wright is often described as a master. In her presentation, Susanka will help us to understand an aspect of that mastery that is rarely recognized but is at the core of his work's power to move us.

A bestselling author, architect and cultural visionary, Susanka is leading a movement that is redefining the American home. Her "build better, not bigger" approach to residential design has been embraced across the country and her "Not So Big" philosophy has sparked international dialogue.

As a leading advocate for the re-popularization of residential architecture, Susanka has improved the quality of home design while countering the elitist image of architects so commonly held by the public.

Presented by the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust, the Susanka lecture will be held at 7 pm, on September 17, in the ballroom of the School of Art Institute, 112 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago. Admission is $25 and tickets may be purchased at GoWright.org or at the door.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust engages the public in educational and aesthetic experiences to foster an appreciation of architecture, design and the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright. The Preservation Trust presents two Wright structures as public historic architecture museums, his remarkable Home and Studio in Oak Park, Illinois and his Prairie style masterpiece, the Robie House in Chicago. The Preservation Trust is responsible for restoring and preserving the two Wright sites they manage, including the multimillion dollar restoration of Wright's Robie House. More information on the many restoration, preservation and education programs of the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust can be found at GoWright.org.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jun 13, 2008 - Sarah Susanka, author of The Not So Big Life, will kick off the Athena Isle Summer series of events on Tuesday, June 17 at 12pm PST with "The Waking Dream: Second Life as a Metaphor for Our True Self." The event will take place in the Athena Isle Dome in Second Life.

The event will be hosted by Athena Isle Women and take place on Athena Isle owned by Second Life personality Cybergrrl Oh. The discussion will be conducted in a roundtable format to allow Susanka to answer questions posed directly by Second Life residents in attendance.

In May [2007], Random House released Sarah's book "The Not So Big Life." In her book, she presents the antidote to the "bigger is better" mentality that drives our McLives.

In conjunction with her latest book, she has written about Second Life in her blog, explaining how it provides an excellent metaphor for understanding how we create our own realities.

"In my book, I introduce the concept of the Waking Dream, the notion that everything that is happening in our lives is a kind of dream in which every character and every event that happens to us is a reflection of an aspect of who we really are," said Sarah. "This is a truth that's very difficult for most humans to grapple with because it disavows the separate existence of that which they've always taken themselves to be."

Sarah said that when she heard recently of the virtual reality world Second Life, she realized that it provides an entirely new metaphor for people's perceptual conundrum, one that allows everyone "to see from the perspective of the course or supreme Self, rather than the individual character."
